Music Programme 2009

Bath Festivals' Education Programme...developing the enquiring mind.

Bath Festivals is developing a year round programme of educational events and activities enabling people to develop their creativity through music. Our programme offers young people a wide range of opportunities to engage in music and we work with a variety of partners. This year our programme is influenced by fairytales, Whale Song and the work of David Rothernberg and the creative ideas of children and young people in our community

Highlights from this year's projects and events include the Party in the City commission and we are delighted to be working with teachers and students from seven schools across Bath and North East Somerset as well as composer Stephen Hiscock. This special commission for the opening event in Bath Abbey at Party in the City will be a fantastic  opportunity to hear talented young musicians perform all over the Abbey.

As part of our continuing partnership with Three Ways Special School  and Bath Philharmonia we have developed a cross art form project inspired by David Rothenberg's exploration of whale song. The culmination of this work will be a music and dance performance by students from Three Ways School and Hayesfield Secondary School in July.

Primary Schools can get involved in our vibrant Festival Procession by hosting artists at their schools to create wonderful art work and music inspired by whale song. For more information click here. If your school is not taking part then join us in the Gardener's Lodge at the Holburne Museum for a week of workshops for pre-school and primary-age children to create artwork specially for the Festival Procession on Friday 22 May.

Children's Procession

We provide a year round programme of educational events and activities enabling people to develop their creativity. The work we do during the Bath International Music Festival is just one part of the work we carry out across Bath and North East Somerset with a variety of partners throughout the whole year.   We run targeted education programmes in schools, youth centres and community settings and we are happy to talk to people about our work and the development of future programmes, please contact us with your ideas.
